Position Summary and Responsibilities

Summary Under limited supervision, verifies and keeps records on incoming and outgoing shipments and prepares items for shipment by performing the following duties.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Shipping: • Compares identifying information and counts, weighs, or measures items of incoming and outgoing shipments to verify information against bills of lading, invoices, orders, or other records. • Determines method of shipment. • Coordinate with shipping carriers to schedule pick-ups and track shipments • Affixes shipping labels on packed cartons or stencils identifying shipping information on cartons. • Assembles wooden or cardboard containers or selects pre-assembled containers. • Inserts items into containers. • Nails covers on wooden crates and binds containers with metal tape. • Stamps, stencils, or glues identifying information and shipping instructions onto crates or containers. • Posts weights and shipping charges, and affixes postage. • Examines outgoing shipments to ensure shipments meet specifications.
Receiving: • Unpacks and examines incoming shipments, rejects damaged items, records shortages, and corresponds with shipper to rectify damages and shortages. • Routes items to departments. • Maintains inventory of shipping materials and supplies. • Operates tier lift truck or uses hand truck to move, convey, or hoist shipments from shipping and receiving platform to storage or work area. • Work with carriers to facilitate unloading, storage and organization of products • Verify incoming materials and perform visual inspection to ensure that all products are not damaged or deteriorated. • Report incoming packages to appropriate department/end-user. • Maintain accurate log of materials to reflect incoming and outgoing traffic of products • Contact appropriate personnel whenever there are issues with the items being received.

Supervisory Responsibilities This job has no supervisory responsibilities but may include providing technical leadership to lower level shipping and receiving clerks including carrying out lead responsibilities in accordance with applicable regulations and laws and the organization’s policies and procedures. This includes, but is not limited to training employees, planning, assigning, directing work and resolving technically related work problems.

Education and/or Experience
High school diploma / general education degree (GED); and 5-10 years’ directly related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Language Skills
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
Mathematical Skills
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
Reasoning Ability
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
Computer Skills
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of database software; inventory software; manufacturing software; spreadsheet software and word processing software.

Other Essential Duties • Follows all import/export requirements, consulting with facility import/export personnel as required.
Other Skills and Abilities • Basic Knowledge of ISO and/or AS9100 • Working knowledge of Lean Manufacturing/6 Sigma/Kaizen • Knowledge of specific software (design, analysis, ERP…) • DOT, IATA, and/or IMO hazardous waste training Other Qualifications • Active Government Security Clearance • US Citizenship with ability to attain/maintain government security clearance. • U.S. Person for access to ITAR-Controlled Technical Data. • Ability to travel (domestically/internationally) approximately ___%.
