Summary
The cost accountant position is accountable for the ongoing analysis of process constraints, target costing projects, margin analysis, and tracing costs back to underlying activities. The cost accountant must also construct and monitor those cost-effective data accumulation systems needed to provide an appropriate level of costing information to management.
Primary Responsibilities
- Administer cost accounting activities to ensure accurate costing and valuation of production, cost of sales and inventory
- Assist with monthly closing process by preparing and posting month-end journal entries, as well as preparation of monthly financial reports on a timely basis
- Monthly tracking of standard cost compared to actual cost. Provide monthly product margin and profit analysis (sales, standard cost, freight, manufacturing overhead and variances, etc.), and prepare recommendations for action
- Responsible for physical inventory and reconciliation, Identification of excess and obsolete inventory
- Establish standards for material, labor and overhead annually and for new products, as needed
- Review the new products cost model and prepare recommendations for action
- To participate in continuous improvement activities that enhances the cost competition at the plant
- Assist with preparation and evaluation of weekly flash, monthly forecast, and annual budget
- PO review regarding any CIP, tooling, low value assets and ED&D accounts
- Monitor Tooling, CIP, fixed assets accounts as well as reconciliation with GL
- Other duties as assigned
Knowledge And Skill Requirements
- Bachelor Degree in Accounting or Finance Major
- 3 to 5 years in Manufacturing environment preferred
- Strong cost accounting skills
- Solid decision making skills and ability to exercise independent judgment
- Prioritize and plan work activities efficiently to meet deadlines; work on multiple tasks & projects simultaneously
- Ability to deal with change, delays, or unexpected events
- Ability to work in team environment with varied departments and diverse personalities
- Detailed oriented with excellent oral and written communication skills
- Manufacturing / automotive industry experience a plus
- Strong understanding of ERP transactions, Proficient in MS Word, MS Outlook, Intermediate to Advance MS Excel knowledge & skills
